Common Fat-Dissolving Agents Questions

Fat-Dissolving Agents (Kybella, Deoxycholic acid) permanently destroy fat cells. The most commonly treated area is the small fat pad under the chin, often referred to as the “double chin”, creating a slimmer, more youthful chin and neck line. Other areas of stubborn body fat can be treated similarly.

Why use a fat-dissolving agent?

Since aging and genetics can affect the fullness of the fat pad under the skin, sometimes diet and exercise may not be enough. As opposed to liposuction and surgery, fat-dissolving agents are non-invasive, have minimal down time, and long-lasting effects.

What is deoxycholic acid?

Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body that is used to break down body fat. When used as a fat dissolving agent, the fat is then removed naturally by the body’s lymphatic system. It is the main substance in Kybella, which was FDA approved in 2015.

Is it painful?

Little to no anesthetic is needed for these injections as they are non-invasive. Treatment is quick and well tolerated.

Is it safe?

Kybella has been tested in clinical trials for years and found to be effective and safe when used as directed.

How many treatments are necessary?

Multiple injections are given during a treatment, and a series of treatments is recommended to help you reach your desired results. Our Nurse Practitioners will work with you to ensure that you are happy with your results.
